Climat

We usually say that Earth is our home, our habitat, our native planet and so on. But what have we done to save and maintain it? Our common life couse polution, littering, greenhouse effect, animal extinction. So we mostly damage Earth‘s surfase and atmosphere.

The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere trap energy from the sun. Whenever we use the Air Conditioner, ride in a Car, microwave a Meal or wwhen factories make the things that we buy and use everyday we are helping to send greenhouse gas into the air. The greenhouse effect is important. Without it, the Earth wouldn‘t be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals.

Moreover, we can feel it‘s results even in Lithuania. The average temperature is rising every yyear. Summer is hotter than usually and winter‘s average temperature is higher then always. We can feel it even nowdays: the temperature is often above zero. In addition, I‘m not keen on skiing and skating, but the last time I wwas skiing was last year. It was a very cold winter with a lot of snow.

If I had to characterise the climat of Lithuania to a visitor who has never been in Lithuania before this is how it would be:

In spring the sky often is cloudy all day long and it’s raining at intervals. The temperature is about 10 degrees over zero. But sometimes the sky is clear and the sun is shining and then the temperature rise up to 15-19 degrees over zero.

The weather is usually fine in summer, but it can be very hot, especially in July. Some¬times there are storms with thunder and lightning. Temperature is 25 degrees over zero and it’s very hot and sultry. SSun is blazing, but it’s good only to get sunburn.

Autumn begins in September. The days become shorter and the nights become longer. It is still warm in September but the weather often changes and it gets colder and colder. The sun shines bright, but it isn’t hot. It often rains in October and November what makes autumn an unpleasant season.

In winter the sun sets early and rises late. The rivers and lakes are frozen over. Everything is covered with ssnow. It is very slippery. The days are short and the nights are long, the sun is seldom in the sky. The strong wind blows. Sometimes it is very cold, about 25 – 30 degrees below zero.
