Learning foreign languages is very important, especially nowadays, when Lithuania got independence and we can associate with people from all over the world. If you can speak English or German fluently, you can go to any country of the world without being frightened of any situations you can get there, you can study in any country of the world or find a suitable job here in Lithuania.

Learning a foreign language is not an easy thing. It is aa long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But to know at least one, especially English, is absolutely necessary for every educated person. The world won’t start learning or speaking Lithuanian, so we will not be able to communicate knowing only our native language.

I think we all should concentrate on learning English, because it has already become a world language. More than 300 million people speak English. Geographically, it is the most widespread language oon the Earth, second only to Chinese in the number of people who speak it.

Besides, millions of people study and use English as a foreign language. It is the language of progressive science and technology, trade and cultural rrelations, commerce and business. It is also the major language of diplomacy. In our country it is very popular too: it is studied at schools, collages and universities.

I think, that English has become a world language because of it’s flexibility, simplicity of form and openness of vocabulary.
