Environmental problems

Lithuania has a very beautiful landscape, but environment pollution is increasing every day. So if people don’t make any changes we soon won’t have a quite and clean place to relax, also fauna and flora won’t have their natural habitat. For this reason they will become extinct. This is the main fact why conservation groups try to protect and expand national parks or conservation areas in Lithuania.

About two hundred years ago man lived in harmony with nature, be¬cause, industry was nnot much developed. Today, however, the contradictions be¬tween man and nature are dramatic. Every year world industry throws out into atmosphere about 1.000 million tons of dust and other harmful sub¬stances. People of many cities suffer from smog. Forests are disappearing. The pollution of the air, oceans, seas, rivers and lakes, and the destruction of the ozone layer could lead our planet to a global catastrophe.

To prevent environmental problems some of nature lovers gathered and established “The Green Party” iin 1982. It’s main pourpose is to prevent greenhouse effect, animal extinction, air and water pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer. Solutions of all problems are viewed as necessary to maintain human life.

Moreover, each of us must do eeverything possible to keep the land, air and water clean. How we can protect nature? Everybody must plant trees, flowers, take care of animals. Schoolchildren must not break trees, must not pick flowers in the forest or in the field, must not throw waste paper or other things into rivers or lakes.

The Earth is our home, that is why we must take care of it, for ourselves and for the next generations. We must keep our environment clean.
